This is an urgent update.

At the Speaker's news conference on Tuesday, his comments were that he believes it has promise but his concern is about the abuse that may accompany this. Aside from the fact that the abuse of "legal" prescription drugs is epidemic and resulting in more deaths than those from alcohol, I am concerned that the legalization issue is confusing and not helpful to our cause.

I will re-etirate, tne North Carolina Cannabis Patients Network is exactly that:

"A network of PATIENTS and VETERANS, along with compassionate caregivers, who are not criminals, we are people in need of medical help from this natural plant."

We are the orgnaization that established the lobbying effort on February 12th. We were hoping by then to have a new bill number. Since Rep. Kelly Alexander decided to delay for a couple of days the introduction of the new bill. We are hoping this delay will allow the republicans to possibly consider co-sponsoring the legislation. Sickness affects everyone, it is not a partisan issue. We hope the Republicans realize this as probably one of the finest moments to join us in a BI-PARTISAN EFFORT!!!

For anyone wanting to volunteer to help with the lobbying effort. If you have knowledge of or are willing to help, we need volunteers to help folks find their legislators and to help with serving lunch on the mall around 12 noon. If you are interested, come to the mall at 8 AM for a planning meeting. We will assign tasks for volunteers; with nearly 1500 possible attendees, we will need help.

On Monday morning Feb 4th at 8 AM, I will be in the studio at WFNC (640 on the AM dial) in Fayetteville to co-host a program on the medical cannabis act. Phone lines will be open and if you call, they will take your name and put you on hold. While on hold, you will hear the program on your phone. When it is your time, they will alert you. If you call early, you will hear all previous conversations and we can keep the education going.

Have done two shows already for Hickory and Rocky Mount radio stations.

I have probably left something out, but I leave immediately for Durham. The SEC (State Executive Committee) meets at 9 tomorrow. We will elect a new Democratic Party Chair..RANDY VOLLER..a strong supporter. He has asked me to participate in the program and has promised that the cannabis act WILL play a major roll this year. EXPECT SURPRISES.

Your PUMPED UP PRES!!!!

Cpt Cannabis, I became addicted to heroin in vietnam before we "knew" what it was. I used cannabis successfully to beat this addiction.

FG 420,
Thank you so much for the message to norml. I have great respect for them and WORKED FOR THEM several years. I understand their frustration, but if their help is misunderstood, it becomes less helpful.

Has anyone talked about the idea than marijuana can get someone off pescription drug abuse?? Or that because marijuana is illegal is why a lot of people use harder drugs that only stay in your system 72 hours? Most drug tests only focus on marijuana use, this is especially true of corporate america. Most companies I have ever worked for focus on marijuana tests, but you can go and take the test high on crack or perscription drugs and they would never care.

If Medical Marijuana was passed tomorrow the federal government would still considers Marijuana a schedule 1 drug. The government funds the health insurance for vets through VHA if I am not mistaken so therefore that would make the Vet ineligible for his/her health insurance, because you know NC won’t fight the government.

So getting MM in N.C does what exactly for the vets of our state? Brings us closer to yet another battle to get the VHA to allow the use of MM for those vets? We are arguing with lawmakers rather or not the government believes that MM has any medical use when they themselves own several patents on the creation of such prescriptions. Washington D.C has Medical Marijuana and that means nothing to our lawmakers?
If we really want to help the Vets we should be contacting the VHA to get them to allow the use of MM for Vets.

PS: It only makes SENSE that politicians will take more notice of VETERANS needs over the needs of regular patients. Veterans endure horrors in war that scar them for life. Veterans lay down their LIVES to preserve and protect the freedoms in this country. If I was standing in a line to get medicine and a Veteran was behind me in line I would gladly give up my place in line for him/her. Its called RESPECT. Respect for those who gave up home and hearth and loving families, wives, sons and daughters to go off to a foreign country to fight for the freedoms that all of us enjoy today..and that includes the right to say what we want. I for one DO put them in a higher class than the average citizen. And I believe they deserve the same rights in ALL states when it comes to their medical care. Not only does Mr. Parks have my RESPECT as a Veteran he has my RESPECT as the President of this Organization for all he has done and will continue to do, not only for his fellow Veterans but for ALL the citizens of this state. THANK YOU Mr. Parks and Everyone in NCCPN for all you do. And Mr. Parks is right, not every fight is won by who has the most MONEY or Influence... ;-) Truth and Being RIGHT are POWERFUL allies. :-) I strongly believe that under his guidance we WILL win this fight this year!!! :-) 8)

Hi all... :-) Well..I said in a post just the other day about how NORML has LEGALIZE MARIJUANA on a lot of their posts on FaceBook. :-? And about how a lot of their posts read like they are for full legalization.. :-* As much as I agree with their ideals of reform, It does send mixed messages to lawmakers and young people. :-? In my opinion NC NORML should respect all the groundwork and efforts made by NCCPN over the last 3+ years. If they come in pushing for legalization it undermines everything that NCCPN has worked so hard for. I wrote to NORML 2 years ago asking if they could support the efforts in NC to make MEDICAL marijuana legal. Their response to me was that they did not feel the political "climate" was right in NC for them to spend their resources on.. :-? So now....that the "climate" has changed due to ALL the hard work of Mr. Parks and NCCPN they suddenly pop up here in NC using their vast resources to what? :-| Help us? Pushing for legalization is NOT helping us...Say what you will but look at their facebook page... When you say things like MAKE MARIJUANA LEGAL IN NC it certainly sounds like they are pushing for LEGALIZATION period. :-* I for one feel like if they want to help they need to clarify their position and always use MEDICAL marijuana in their posts to the public. Mr. Parks knows NC politics.. He knows the "climate" better than anyone else when it comes to this issue. THEY should listen to what HE has to say... We cannot be divided on this issue or it will go down in flames... :-? We need to ALL be on the same side and get this bill for MEDICAL marijuana PASSED in this state. :-) Then and ONLY then can efforts be started to follow the lead of other states to allow for recreational use. ;-) And that is a LONG way off still for North Carolina... :-? Lets just all support the same thing.. MEDICAL MARIJUANA for NC.

BTW, I don't think you have a real picture of how the impact of this is much different for a veteran..
You may not think that a few years in a foreign country separated from people you love is different from most jobs, but IMHO, IT IS MUCH DIFFERENT.
