Hi Guys-- Just found this site this morning--
I am residing in Greensboro NC.
I am so glad to see that there is a group in N.C. that is helping us who need this bill to be passed!
I suffer with ddd in disc 4,5,6 and and 7--as well as bulging disc.
I constantly am in pain--neck--shoulders,all down back as well suffer with anxiety and depression-as for the medication they give me--I refuse to take-I am more into herbal remedies!
I am unemployed and available to attend any gatherings to support!

Welcome Vanilla, Glad to see you have introduced yourself. Just wanted to let you know that if you look around the site you will see a lot of different places for info. Food, Dr. Baiko site which is medical info., there is a place to look up certain ailments on the right side, that will tell you what MMJ will do for you. And last but not least there are groups that you can join in your area. I think you may be in the Piedmont Group. Over to the left is a box where you check your county or one that you choose and look at what group you are in. If you want go ahead and sign up for your group. Welcome and may you find many good friends and great info on this site. Also, Tuesday at 8 pm is chat, which is at the top of the page. You can just click on chat and it will take you there. Good luck and if you need any help let me know. B

Hello all,
I am 34 years old I was born and raised in Up-State NY. Not the concrete jungle most think of when NY is mentioned. I currently reside 20 minutes east of Raleigh NC. I used MJ from the age of 13-20 for recreation. I quit using it in order to join the Marine Corps in 1998. I was stationed at 2nd Force Recon, Camp Lejeune NC, as their Armorer until 2002. I was not able to reenlist due due a severely broken collar bone, because I can no longer carry a heavy pack. After my contract was over, I began working for the State of NC as a Correctional Officer. I have done every job possible at the facility I worked, even became a State Certified instructor to train and re-certify new and existing staff in the performance of their duties. In 2010 I became very sick and had to go out on medical leave. I was out of work for 2 months before being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I was given almost every drug known to treat this disease. The specialist I was seeing couldn't figure out how to fix me and just continued to prescribe me pill after pill, IV drugs, and enemas to find out what would work. NOTHING WORKED, and he would not listen to my concerns. At one point in time he had me popping over 15 pills every morning, of various drugs, and more through out the day. This went on for about a year. Then out of the blue I got a phone call from the prison saying that my doctor had returned me to work, I told them they were nuts, because my doctor had said nothing to me and I was still bleeding and having other issues. I called my doctor to see what was going on and to get copies of what he sent my employer. I learned he did in fact return me to work "because there was nothing more he could do for me", what a crock! He also refused to give me copies of what he sent to my employer. I then threatened him with getting an attorney, because he would not give me my own medical documents. He then refused to see or treat me. I finally got my document and a referral to UNC Chapel Hill. Also during this time I figured I would start looking for my own cure, by doing so much research it would make most sick of looking at the information. I was tired of taking all the man made drugs and poisons. I wasn't finding anything that would help because I had already taken all but a couple of drugs used to treat my disease. I was very depressed and ready for everything to be over. This resulted in a short 4 day stay at a mental hospital for the depression. When I was released I decided I would try anything at all to relief. This is when my research got amped up even more, because I found that MMJ would treat my condition. So guess what? I started using it, AND IT FRIGGIN WORKED! I was in total shock that this "drug" I had used when I was younger for fun, helped immensely with my symptoms. When I began going to UNC I made it known the drugs prescribed to me by my former doctor didn't work, and that I had found something that did. He slowly took his eyes off of his paperwork, and looked at me very intently, and with a smurk on his face asked what it was. I told him I started using MMJ to give me some relief. His next statement floored me! He said " I cant tell you to do this but, if it helps, keep doing it!" He then explained himself off the record, that they are aware that MMJ helps, but due to the State laws he could not tell me to use it. This set off all sorts of flags in my head! The very day of this conversation he told me to quit taking all the pills, and other drugs I had at the house. He also has reduced my IV drugs to the point that I may not be on any drugs at all in 6 months. He wrote me note to go back to work with an accommodation, that was denied by my employer. It was a simple request to give me immediate access to a toilet, and was very detailed in the reasoning behind the request. My employer denied my doctors request, and fired me due to unavailability. This was not just a job, but a career, that I had worked very hard for almost ten years. I knew the States policies and knew it would come eventually. I didnt feel sorry for myself, because I knew as soon as I was taken out of work, what would happen so I had a back up plan. I went back to school and got a degree in Healthcare Administration, and recently tested out to become a CNA. I will be going back to work shortly in my new chosen career field, and plan on taking more classes to better myself. I continue treat myself with great results. I manage my daily pain, and flare ups on my own thanks to a simple plant that can grow anywhere. At my last visit my doctor asked me with a smile on his face, if I would be willing to participate in a Nation Wide research group, of which they had representatives at the office that day. I looked back with a smile and said "sure". He knew exactly what I was going to tell them, because I am VERY open about the fact that I use MMJ for the UC. I sat in the exam room answering a ton of questions and listing all drugs I had taken. Finally! The question came up I had been waiting for. " Do you use and/or abuse illegal drugs or alcohol?" I immediately asked "What do you consider abuse?" The woman stopped cold in her tracks and gave me a very puzzling look. I let her ponder my question for a second before I told her my story, and that I am very honest and open about how I treat myself. After hearing my story she said she would have to go talk to her supervisor in the other room about what I had just told her. I thought to myself, "Here we go, I should have kept my big mouth shut to this lady." She came back a few seconds later with a weird look on her face. Her boss had told her that " it was fine" and we continued the process and even discussed MMJ off the record. I guess I had opened her mind a little bit, because she was very curious. I continue to shock and change the opinions of others when I tell my story, and provide the facts. I have even changed my own mothers opinion about MMJ. She checks on me often and can tell when Im having a bad day, and tells me to go medicate. This comes from the same woman that kicked me out of the house when I was 17 due to my recreational use. I have also changed the view of MMJ for several State employees. I figured if I can change the opinions of so many, in such a short time, that I needed to do something on a larger scale. Im tired of this State and the Countries policies on this plant. Im tired of living in fear that someone is going to come kick my door in, arrest me, or take my children away, because I use something that helps me and many others. Hell, I cant even go to the VA because they require a clean urine sample, I refuse to quit my self medicating to be put on more man made poison. So that is my story and that is why I am here. I am full of knowledge and ready to share it with the world to end this policy. Sorry for such a long post.

Welcome to the group! I'm new to the group and to NC, from upstate NY. I can relate to the life of trying countless medications to no avail. I maintain now with the stupid liver/kidney-killing pills they prescribe me, praying for the day when I can medicate with mmj and spare my body of of these damn pills! Until they legalize it though, I have to play by the rules or get kicked out of my PM doc office, and that leads down a bad road. It's so aggravating. They KNOW mj helps us, but let us have this natural healer/pain killer/nausea reducer...etc etc etc? Oh hell no, that would just make big pharma tank. Argh
Anyway, thanks for sharing with all of us. Everyone is very welcoming in this group.

Hi, all...
I'm a 48 year old professional engineer. I have had Crohn's Disease since 1978. I am on a pain management regimen to control the pain associated with the condition and the surgery it required. The medications help, but have some side effects and cause physical dependency. The research I've read about medical cannabis makes me think it could help.
As far as other interests, I like shooting, hiking, science fiction, and animation. I look forward to getting to know you all better.
Peace & Freedom,
Pygar

Hello everyone,
I am 21 yrs old and want to become more involved in the advocacy of MMJ. Cannabis is such a wonderful plant. If someone gave you seeds, told you to plant them and said that it would provide you with food, paper, shelter, clothes, and medicine. Would you plant them? Of course we would, the fact that this plant is illegal blows my mind! Especially considering that our forefathers had hemp farms and that our declaration was wrote on hemp paper. As you can tell it just makes me sick to my stomach that our government has taken away our basic rights and convinced people that this is a harmful substance. After I post this I will search the site to find out more info about gathering and what not. I'm looking forward to make many new friends in the industry and become a part of the change.
Peace, love & happiness,
Sager West

Hello everyone!
mrfriendly here checking in with you guys. I'm in the Charlotte area, originally from DC. I'm a 26 year old father of four, actively train MMA full time, work full time, and play Dad full time. I stay busy! And just like many of you that are part of this board, I want to see change in our home state.
After traveling to and from CA to feel the vibe, and with recent law changes in some of our states, I feel strongly that NC is not very far behind. And if any state here in the south, or the "Bible Belt", is going to make a bold change, it's definitely us.
Love seeing a group of individuals here in my backyard that feel the same way. The truth is there are people like us, that we interact with on a daily basis, and people would never know. Like it's taboo.
I feel if more people were open, and talked about the issue openly, and got more folks to get rid of that "taboo" feeling when talking about marijuana, a push through legislature would be much more easier for the state of NC.
Anyways, I don't mean to ramble on. I am interested in networking, and look forward to meeting more local folks, and not so local folks in the near future. Please feel free to contact me, or we can certainly put names to faces and shake a hand or two, at a meeting soon.
Getting word of mouth to spread like a wildfire is what is really going to help make things happen!

Hi all - first time forum-er, long time Facebook follower! My name is Crystal, but most friends call me "luna" (long time nickname). Anyway, after quite some time lurking, I've decided to register and introduce myself! I'm 32 years old, and living outside Charlotte (near Monroe). I've been a long term recreational smoker, but the past few years have thrown some health problems at me that have really shown me how beneficial marijuana can be medically. I suffer from Fibromyalgia, CFS, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (in both arms), severe Depression (no doubt brought on by my reduced quality of life the past few years), Migraines, Insomnia, and a whole hkst of other issues related to my FMS/CFS. I'm regularly house-bound, and on a whole host of pills that sometimes help with the pain, but mostly increase my fatigue, sleeping problems, and nausea. Since I am unable to work, I've been fighting to get Disability for 2 years now, but am still going through appeals (even with the backing of my Neurologist, I'm getting denial after denial). Currently, because of lack of funds and lack of contacts (I'm not able to get out much, and don't know anyone locally), I am unable to access the medication that helps me the most, but is still completely illegal. Doctors don't mind loading me up on addictive opiates with terrible side effects, but the government won't allow me to use the one thing that has brought me relief without all of the side effects.
Anyway, when I am able, I do a lot of volunteer work with homeless animals. Most recently, I organized a weekend long benefit concert that raised over $1,000 and tons of supplies for our local Humane Society. I also run a group of individuals working to reform out county animal shelter, which kills nearly 80% of incoming animals via the gas chamber! I also volunteer taking care of the adoptable cats at Petsmart, as well as interacting (read: playing) with the animals at the county shelter. Of course, all of these have been on the back burner for the moment, as the colder weather aggravates my pain, and limits what I can handle even more.
I enjoy outdoor stuff when I'm able, especially hiking and camping. I love going to live (mostly local metal) concerts, again, when I'm able. I'm a crafter (everything from jewelry making to sewing), and love to bake as well.
As I said before, I'm not able to get out much, but I am near constantly online, as it is my only way of having a social life at the moment. I'd love to meet some locals though, so feel free to hit me up! My Facebook page is at www.facebook.com/canotila if you'd like to add me, but I will warn you that I am pretty outspoken about my feelings on anything from my health issues to politics. I am an ATHEIST, and religious folks may be offended by some of my posts (I don't mind if you are religious, but I do repost many things from my atheist groups that have offended some of my religious friends - so you've been warned!)
Anyway, nice to "meet" you all, and I look forward to working and "socializing" with you in the future!
