Debate: Marijuana For Medical Use In NC

Smoking marijuana in our state is illegal, but there is a bill in the North Carolina House that would change that. It is bill 1380, and it would make it legal for people to use the drug for medical reasons. Many are against the idea, but there's a group in our state pushing hard to get it passed.

Boycott Applebee's

October 7th, 2009

After holding one pancake fundraiser breakfast in Clemmons on Sept. 12th, we were told by the manager of Applebee's in Fuquay that we could not hold any more pancake breakfasts at their restaurants. The program which is "open to all non-profits" is not open to any non-profit that is "politically charged" according to the home office at Apple Gold.

Lawmakers File Medical Marijuana Bill

"Rep. Nick Mackey,D-Mecklenburg County, and Earl Jones, D-Guilford County, say people with ailments like arthritis, AIDS and HIV and cancer would benefit from the regulated use of the drug. The law would allow North Carolina to join 13 other states that have laws permitting the use of medical marijuana.

But Jean Marlowe, executive director of the N.C. Cannabis Patients Network, isn't waiting. Lighting a pipe filled with marijuana in the middle of Marshall Park in Uptown Charlotte Thursday, she said she's spent time in federal prison for smoking pot for her medical ailments."

Fight to Legalize Moves Forward
